Nine Lives Logistics (9LL) began as a simple courier service, not much different from any other transportation network. However, 9LL prioritized speed and efficiency over having the cheapest price point, and it turns out that clients are willing to pay premiums when their lives are on the line. Several mergers and corporate direction shifts later, 9LL discovered that transporting people was far more lucrative than merely transporting their possessions. Before the Maelstrom overtook Etheriat, 9LL was the premier provider of medical transport services across known space.
The original package and goods transport services offered by 9LL survives as the Bridgewalker Transport subsidiary. As always with companies under the 9LL umbrella, BT prioritizes getting the job done fast and well over completing the task cheaply.
9LL maintains a non-profit subsidiary, the Etheriat Protection and Rescue Corps. The EPRC is primarily funded via donations from the public and is staffed by individuals who put their lives on the line to execute search and rescue operations in the aftermath of large-scale disasters. There are rumors that the EPRC also performs less savory activities, including “management” of hostage situations. The corps’ logo of a cat skull over the six-armed star of life has earned its members the affectionate moniker of “Rescue Cats”.
9LL maintains a corporate rivalry with Hornet’s Nest whom they view as “jackbooted thugs” (never mind that both supercorps make incredible profits in their respective niches). Further complicating the relationship is the fact that 9LL prioritizes saving lives, whereas H/N specializes in ending them.
